Nobby Island

George Pullman [railroad cars] built the original 'Castle Rest' nearby. President Grant stayed as a guest in 1872. His visit was instrumental in putting the Thousand Islands on the map and many industrialists built McMansions nearby in what is known as 'Millionaires row'. Our meager digs are 10 minutes away.

This months news
This month was the month we dedicated to our customary two week rental of the Bee. As always, we lined up a home exchange and boy, it did not dissapoint. The place was about two hours away from home on the Canadian side, deep in the woods, with a 5 bedroom house on a lakeside property. A stunning property that made us feel like….we scored!

It had a motorboat, canoes, a pedal boat, play room with pool table and on and on. The part you might have a little more trouble understanding was that I only stayed there a few days myself while Janice enjoyed it for the duration.
I chose to go spend the better part of the period working on the plane and spending the night’s real cozy like in the comfort and opulence of the hangar, allowing me long uninterrupted days of final assembly time. It is what a boy has to do to finish his wife’s airplane.
Ater a quick week end trip to montreal to visit a niece and my younger brother, our second week was spent hiding out in a B&B in Mt. Tremblant, a resort area north of Montreal. Janice had a hankering to do some serious shopping at antique stores to look for great ideas for things for me to do.
That day.
Rats! It happened again. I barely had time to turn around and the actuarial tables say I am a year closer to pushing up daisies. But then again, how would I know? It will be days before I sober up enough to bring myself to dealing with that kind of gut wrenching news and besides, I choose not to participate.
It is really discouraging as I have way more stuff left to do than the tables say I have time to do them in so the math is not adding up. What’s so “Happy” about that?
I am doing my bit here. I wake up whenever I feel like it, hit the deck running and try to cram in as much fun as I possibly can every day. What is a boy to do?
Janice recently asked me if I was done with big, crazy, expensive, bucket list items [For my younger readers, a bucket list are the things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’…. get it?]
Knowing which side my bread is buttered on, I have resisted mentioning to her that soon, being able to land on water might call for a need to work underwater on stuff. I don’t know, maybe replacing the prop on the boat, or fixing the water pump.
Or diving to some of the local wrecks….The Thousand Islands has some of the best fresh water diving in the world.
Diving would require scuba gear and of course, mastering this new skill set. For safety’s sake this could require a vehicle of some sort. Like an itsy bitsy poor man’s submarine. No, not like the navy has, but a small 2 person sub that is a propulsion vehicle to carry a couple of divers with scuba gear to all the incredible diving sites around here.
Fortunately, I saw a great set of plans for one in Popular Mechanics. Like flying, I don’t want this but we clearly need it. I might just wait to raise the subject until after I finish the ‘honey do’ list.
